Cowboys Win and Turmoil

Congrats to the Cowboys for their win over the Bengals!  They are still undefeated in December and the playoff picture looks a little better for them this week.  Unfortunately, the Giants and Redskins did not lost that would of helped a lot more.

Now, the Cowboys are facing the possibility of losing a physical receiver for the rest of the season because of Bryant's finger.   In the NFL, injuries leads to opportunities for other players.  I am looking to see who will step up, Harris or Beasley.  I think the jury is in on Ogletree, not consistent enough.

The Cowboys are in the news a lot the past couple of days!  Let's see Josh Brent is arrested for his involvement in the death of his teammate Jerry Brown, Jay Ratliff gets into an argument with Jerry Jones, Dez Bryant has to have surgery on finger and may be out the rest of the season, and the Cowboys beat the Bengals in dramatic fashion.

Juan Manuel Marquez Wins By Ok

The both men said that they needed to knock out the other one out in order to prove that they were better.  At the closing of the 7th round Juan Manuel Marquez proved to be the better.

So will the pressure be off of Mayweather to fight Manny after this?

Norv Turner Returning To The Boys?

Media reports are that Charger's Head Coach Norv Turner is our the door at the end of the season.  Does open the door for possible reunion between the Dallas Cowboys and the former offensive coordinator.

I, personally, think Garrett's job is safe for at least another year, so we don't have to worry about Turner coming to replace Garrett.  However, we all know Jerry Jones has thing for the good ole days and it would not surprise me if brought Turner back as the offensive coordinator next year.

Over the year's Turner has proven he is a better Coordinator than a Head Coach, so will Jerry write the check?

Turkey Day Recipes: Part 3B Baked Apples

Super easy dessert that will put you over the top, without breaking your back. Baked apples, is the way to go. And here it is.
  • 4 Medium to large apples, cored being careful not to go through the bottom
  • 1 cup of regular instant oatmeal
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 1 table spoon of cinnamon
  • ½ a cup of apple juice

Pre-Heat oven to 350 degrees
Mix last four ingredients together
Stuff cored apples with mixture
Place on baking sheet or cupcake pans
Bake for 45 minutes or until oatmeal is cooked
Eat warm with ice cream or let cool.

Enjoy!!!

Turkey Day Recipes: Part 3A Bourbon Pecan Pie

If you haven’t started on your dinner, now is probably zero hour. If you haven’t made your pies yet you should do so and wrap in plastic and store on the counter. Also any other desserts can be made in advanced and stored in the refrigerator. I am adding a couple of recipes today to get things moving as there are only a couple of more days to the big show. Now here is an apple pie recipe that was requested. I’m keeping these recipes simple and I won’t get too extravagant.
Bourbon Pecan Pie
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 ounces sugar
  • 6 ounces golden syrup
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 8 ounces pecans, coarsely chop 6 ounces and leave the remaining 2 ounces whole

Now this recipe is assuming you have a pie crust , either frozen or your own. If you need one please feel free to email info@thetnashow.com.
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
Combine all ingredients except the pecans.
Add the coarsely ground pecans to the bottom of your pie crust.
Add your filling on top of the chopped pecans and pie crust.
Bake for 20 minutes
Arrange the last 2 ounces of pecans around the edge and finish baking for another 15 minutes.
Temperature should be 200 degrees. Or inserted toothpick should pull out clean, when done.
Cool for 3-4 hours on a cooling rack on countertop before serving. Enjoy!

Turkey Day Recipes: Part 2 Turkey Day Stuffing

Now let’s not kid ourselves, Thanksgiving Day stuffing, or dressing, is almost as important as the bird. I’ve had dry, moist, sweet, spicy, awesomeness, and of course the forgettable.

I’m going to keep it very simple today, but of course I can answer any questions you fine folks have. I also have corn muffins in this specific recipe, but it would equate to about 4 cups of crumbled corn bread, made from your favorite recipe or favorite store bought. Also you can substitute dry herbs for fresh, but be careful to use only about a ¼ of the dry as they are more pungent. Also if you would like a more extravagant recipe, feel free to email, before Thanksgiving of course. And here we go.
  • 1 cup chopped carrot
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 bunch fresh sage, leaves chopped
  • 4 large corn muffins
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup, chicken stock, plus more if needed
  • Nonstick cooking spray-optional
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the carrots, celery, and onion. Season with salt and pepper and add the sage. Cook until the vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool a bit.
Crumble the corn muffins into a large bowl. Put in the vegetables. Add the eggs and 1/4 cup chicken stock. Using your hands, mix well adding more stock if the stuffing is too dry. Spray a 2-quart oven-proof baking dish with cooking spray. You can also butter this dish. Put the stuffing into the dish and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the top is browned and crispy.

This recipe will yield about 6-8 servings, so make adjustments as necessary to feed more.

To Secede Or Not Secede?

Courtesy of Yahoo

Wow!  There is a petition for Texas and other states to secede from the Union.  Since I live in Texas, I am really only concerned with this one.  As of 11/12/12 11:41 pm, 56,424 people have signed it.

What happens if this is successful?  Do all of us have to go or just the 56,000?  The whole state goes or do we divide it up?  Maybe carve it out a little corner.  Do we have to build a fence around the Red River too?

So many questions!  Are we really in good position to just up and leave?  I thought we were bad shape.  Didn't we just have to fire a bunch of teachers because we were out of money?  Will our education system support an educated workforce for our new economy?  Aren't we ranked 49th out of 50 states in verbal SAT's scores and 46th in average Math scores? (Not sure if this fits here, just wanted to point out what Rick Perry has done to our education system)

If Texas secede, who would be in charge? Rick Perry, George W, George P?  Would the casino shuttles still run to WinStar?

If Texas becomes, its own nation will our national drink be Texas Tea?  I think these are important questions to ask ourselves.

An even more important question would be to ask is why are these 56,000+ working to have Texas secede instead of having Texas succeed.  Why aren't they working together to figure out how to fix our education problem?  Why aren't they concerned with 22.9% of Texas children living below the poverty level?  No solution for 86.2% of Texas households with no retirement income?

Seceding is a lazy person's way out.

Turkey Day Recipes: Part 1 The Turkey

Every year without fail on Thanksgiving Day I am bombarded by family and friends with questions and concerns about their favorite Thanksgiving Day recipes. I’ve decided this year in an effort to be off the phone and spend more time on my own creations (that’s right Andres my own CREATIONS) that I would do a series of blogs to help make your Thanksgiving effortless and taste spectacular.

First off we will start with center stage, the turkey. Now there are simple guidelines to follow that will keep you safe and looking like a well-seasoned culinarian.

If you haven’t brined a turkey, you should; if you have, you’re on the right track. Now, without getting too technical, brine is simply at its basic level, salt water and will help with keeping your bird moist and aid in seasoning if you decide to do so. Here are brining guidelines:
  • ½ cup salt to every gallon of water you use
  • Brine a fully thawed bird for 8-12 hours for a bird 12-20lbs.
  • Brine in the refrigerator
  • Rinse brine off and pat dry before proceeding

Now that the bird is prepped, preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Roast for 30 minutes, then reduce the heat to no lower than 325 degrees. I’ll have approximate times posted below.

Now to stuff or not to stuff is a personal preference, I choose not to as it lengthens the cooking time. If you want the effect without the added time, simply stuff your bird with the cooked stuffing 20 minutes before total turkey cook time is over. I also recommend either using a turkey rack or I prefer a miropoix, which is simply diced onions, carrots and celery. Place the bird over this bed with your favorite herbs. For added crispness and help with moistness rub your turkey with canola oil or butter under the skin. You can also incorporate fresh herbs here. Hope this at least put you on the right track, Happy Thanksgiving.

Approximate Turkey Cooking Times:
                                                   UN-STUFFED TURKEY
4 to 8 pounds.............1-1/2 to 3-1/4 hours
8 to 12 pounds................2-3/4 to 3 hours
12 to 14 pounds...............3 to 3-3/4 hours
14 to 18 pounds...............3-3/4 to 4-1/4 hours
18 to 20 pounds...............4-1/4 to 4-1/2 hours
20 to 24 pounds...............4-1/2 to 5 hours
STUFFED TURKEY
8 to 12 pounds................3 to 3-1/2 hours
12 to 14 pounds...............3-1/2 to 4 hours
14 to 18 pounds...............4 to 4-1/4 hours
18 to 20 pounds...............4-1/4 to 4-3/4 hours
20 to 24 pounds...............4-3/4 to 5-1/4 hours

By all accounts, this election was decided by Hispanic Voters in the battleground states.  According to a lot of political discussions in the media, the road to the White House for the foreseeable future will go through Hispanic voters.  We need to remember that with "Great Power comes Great Responsibility.

The TNA Show believes a responsibility of ours will be to continue to increase the turnout among Hispanics.  In 2012, national Hispanic turnout was 17% and 2010 was 15%.

In addition to turnout, a responsibility is also to help voters be informed about our issues whether it is the economy, education, jobs, and/or immigration.  This election cycle we, The TNA Show, tried to do our part about bringing in a variety of issues and guest onto our show.

We use a lot of different resources to prepare for our show and we would like to thank them, whether they know it or not, for helping people like us know and understand what was at stake in this election.  I would suggest following these organizations and people for good and accurate information.  If you know of anyone that you would suggest us following, please let us know at info@thetnashow.com

Playoff Bound Cowboys?

Is it too soon to say the Dallas Cowboys are playoffs bound?

After beating the Eagles 38-23 in Philly, the Cowboys are looking at a favorable schedule the rest of the way.  It is possible a 9-7 Cowboys team could win the division and go to the playoffs this year.  I know I know, someone check my blue and silver pipe for some of that new Denver Mile High Wacky Tabacky, but look at the rest of the schedule.  Dallas could end up 5-2 the last 7 games of the season.

Week 11 Cleveland (2-7) at Dallas
Week 12 Washington (3-6) at Dallas
Week 13 Phildelphia (3-6) at Dallas
Week 14 Cincinnati (4-5) in Cincinnati
Week 15 Pittsburgh (5-3) at Dallas
Week 16 New Orleans (4-5) at Dallas
Week 17 Washington (3-6) in Washington

The current division leaders, 6-4 NY Giants have a real tough road ahead of them the last 6 games.  Their schedule proposes a real possibility of going 3-3 the last 6 games.

Week 11 Bye
Week 12 Green Bay (6-3)
Week 13 at Washington (3-6)
Week 14 New Orleans (4-5)
Week 15 at Atlanta (8-1)
Week 16 at Baltimore (7-2)
Week 17 Philadelphia (3-6)

5 out of the last 7 games are at Cowboys Stadium, so Cowboys Fans who are lucky enough to go to the games, please don't wait for an email from Jerry asking you to get loud.  Make some noise!  It is almost Christmas time, let your Blue and Silver Balls hang out!

A quick note to Jerry, you should consider giving some seats away to some rowdy True Blue fans who are watching the game at a bar, home, or in their garage (like me)!  We may not spend hundreds of dollars on some seats, but we lose our voices every Cowboy game!

Again, is it too soon to say the Dallas Cowboys are playoffs bound?

Keeping Up With Chanclas Romney

Photo taken from Mock The Vote at CafePress.com

It seems like it would be a full time job keeping up and trying to figure out what Mitt Romney stands for or what his platform is.  Because of all the flip-flops Governor Romney has made we at the TNA Show have been referring to Governor Mitt Romney as Chanclas.

Below are just a few of Chanclas' Flip-flops" from Mitt Romney Flip Flops

Flip
"Well, I'm not getting rid of all of healthcare reform." – Mitt Romney, Meet the Press interview (Sept. 9, 2012)
Flop
"Obamacare must be repealed in its entirety." – Mitt Romney, Hugh Hewitt Show interview (Sept. 10, 2012)

Flip
Romney, speaking in 2012 about the U.S. auto industry's comeback: "I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy. And finally, when that was done, and help was given, the companies got back on their feet. So I'll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry's come back."
Flop
Romney, writing in a 2008 New York Times op-ed titled "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt": "If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye."

Flip
"I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, that we should sustain and support it. I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." – Mitt Romney, in a 1994 debate with Sen. Edward Kennedy. In 2002, Romney also said, "I respect and will protect a woman's right to choose."
Flop
"Look, I was pro-choice. I am pro-life. You can go back to YouTube and look at what I said in 1994. I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice. I changed my position." – Mitt Romney, in a 2007 Iowa Straw poll debate

Flip
"I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush." –Mitt Romney in a 1994 debate with Sen. Edward Kennedy
Flop
"When I was running for office for the first time in 1994, I was trying to define who I was…. I've said since, and continue to reiterate, that one of my heroes is Ronald Reagan." ––Mitt Romney in a 2006 Q&A with Human Events

The Case for Obama: Why He Is a Great President. Yes, Great.

The Case for Obama: Why He Is a Great President. Yes, Great.

Above is a link to an article that I think clearly lays out the case for President Obama and rightly shines a spotlight on what the Republican strategy has been for 4 years now.

Excerpts below:

"Obama’s résumé of accomplishments is broad and deep, running the gamut from economic to social to foreign policy"

"Bipartisan panels of economists had long urged Medicare to reform its payment methods to curb perverse incentives by hospitals and doctors to run up costs as high as possible; Obama overcame fierce resistance in Congress in order to craft, as part of Obamacare, a revolution in paying for quality rather than quantity."

"Obama can boast a record of accomplishment that bests any president since Roosevelt, and has fewer demerits on his record than any of them, including Roosevelt.

"The Republican strategy is perfectly clear and not even very well hidden. Yet many of us don’t accept it as a reality because it does not feel true."

"McConnell, in keeping with his Bond-villain habit of boasting openly about his nefarious intentions, actually announced in a prepared speech that his top political priority was to make Obama a one-term president."

Offensive or Not?

There is a great debate online right now over if US Olympian Leo Manzano's celebration of his silver medal was patriotic.  Manzano was the first American to win a medal for the US in the 1500 meter race since 1968, and photos captured him draped with an American flag over his back while carrying a smaller Mexican flag in his hand.

This image was the subject of Ruben Navarette's column, columnist for CNN and other publications.  Navarette stated in his article that for some the image may have warmed their hearts, but for him "...the image didn't warm my heart. It upset my stomach."  Navarette believes the waving of two flags by the Olympian was disrespectful to the US.  You can read the article here, U.S. Olympic athlete, Mexican flag?

A rebuttal to Navarette's CNN article has been published on a site called Latino Rebels.  Latino Rebels states that they "...think that what Manzano did was an expression of his true identity."  You can read more here, In Response to Ruben Navarrette’s CNN Column on Manzano, We Stand With the Traitors

Was this image offensive to you?

Out Of District

It is election season time and political parties are trying to sort out who will be their nominees for the Fall Showdown.  Primary voters are kicking the tires on candidates before buying into the campaigns.  Candidates are traveling around various districts selling their message and letting potential voters know what they can do for them.

The voters are looking for many different issues and stances of the campaigns.  These are important decisions to make.  In the case of Congressional campaigns, citizens are going to choose someone from their district to be their representative in D.C.

What happens when the candidates you have to choose from do not live in the district they are trying to represent?  Should a candidate asking you to buy into their campaign have to buy into your neighborhoods and be a resident?  I know this happens a lot where a candidate does not live in one of the groups of neighborhoods they want to represent, like in Texas Congressional District 35 where you have 3 candidates vying for the Democratic Nomination.  Out of the three, only one lives in the district.  Only one candidate can vote for themselves.

Every candidate is making the case that they will be the hardest worker and strongest voice for the district.  However, two of the three are only willing to be your neighbor if you vote for them.  In the same district, the Republican Party has three candidates and of those three, only one lives in the district.  There is a 66% chance that the two candidates for November could be two people who could not even vote for themselves in the May primaries.

If you were to ask all six candidates for District 35 who they will vote for Congress in May only Maria Luisa Alvarado (Democrat) and Susan Narvaiz (Republican) can vote for themselves.

This issue was brought to my attention by an article by Ken Herman (Austin American Statesman).  So the question now is does it matter to you if a candidate is from your District?

The TNA Show has gotten into the advice business.  Listen to advice Turo, Andres, and John Anthony gave to listener "Rosy in the Valley" about what to do when their previous advice worked too well for her.  Also, the crew received a letter about a wife who is bad cook and how to handle that situation.

Dear TNA: Sound Advice

Dear TNA,

My fiance is constantly pleasuring himself.  I don't understand, we have sex twice a week.  Why would he have to do this?

Concerned,
Mrs Jack Hoff

Dear Mrs Hoff,

The world does revolve around you.  Your fiance's jerking has nothing sexually to do with you.  Masturbation is a stress reliever.  For once think of him, figure out what are his triggers.  Money worries, work stress, or your  constant nagging.  Identify his issues and occasionally offer some oral relief with no strings attached.

Andres

Dear Mrs. Hoff,

You've answered your own question.  Men are not as complicated as women, especially in the smash room.  We eat sleep, have sex, and are happy.  Much like a baby except we crap in the toilet, for the most part.

John Anthony

Beer

Now I don’t want to come off as a beer connoisseur, cause I’m not, I would just like to express my feelings on all these” best beer” discussions, most of us have been involved in.

Now a beer drinker I am. And I would consider most of these so called connoisseurs to be novices at drinking. Most people that discuss beer with me and would have me try a new flavor of the month, really don’t drink at all. They’re more of the PC drinking type. The occasional happy hour so called “social” drinker. Getting high on whatever their peers think is cool.

Beer drinking is something that is passed down through generations. Much like religion and culture, we tend to savor the beer our fathers or uncles drink. Sure I have ventured out into the Bud Ices and Sam Adams and the lager and ales of the world, but always knew where my true blend was. Beer to me is something that can be savored all day. Not jumping from one to the other like bad relationships.

Now like I have stated, I’m not an expert nor do I claim to be one. But my beer has to serve me. Something that’s smooth, not heavy, and doesn’t weigh me down, as versatile as Texas weather.

I’m not gonna do an advertisement for my preference. Not yet anyways. But I can tell you that it is the number one beer in the nation for a reason and others claim to have more taste, because of course it has more flavor if it taste like shit.
