New Texas Airhogs Announced and Tryouts for Open Roster Spots

The below press release is from the Texas Airhogs.  The GP and Amarillo team will play as one team for the 2016 season and they will split home games between the two cities.

Also, if you wanted to play baseball here is your chance to earn a spot on the team.

Grand Prairie, Texas - Southern Independent Baseball announced their Texas team name will be the Texas AirHogs. The name change comes shortly after the news that the Grand Prairie AirHogs and Amarillo Thunderheads will unite for the 2016 season. The two members of the American Association of Independent Baseball agreed to the League’s request for this temporary arrangement to accommodate scheduling difficulties with an uneven amount of league teams.

Other important updates to note are the merging of the two teams’ online websites and social media platforms. On the team’s new site,airhogsbaseball.com, fans will be able to purchase tickets to home games in both locations, buy merchandise, receive team updates and access other organization information. Be sure to follow the AirHogs new Twitter and Instagram handles which will be @TXAirHogs and Facebook page Texas AirHogs Baseball.

Exciting preseason events are set to take place at the team’s Grand Prairie stadium. The ball club will host a St. Patrick’s Day kickoff event for fans to purchase individual tickets at the AirHogs stadium in Grand Prairie on March 17 from 2-7 p.m. Group and season ticket packages are on sale now. Open tryouts will take place on May 14 in Grand Prairie to fill two open roster spots. Register now atinfo@airhogsbaseball.com.

Best Hispanic Movies

Now in order to accurately do this, I needed to think of movies that were mainstream, as far as came out in theatres, or whatever they had in the 80's, which is necessary for some of these movies. These are not in any type of order, I will let you decide on that. With that said let’s get started.

Now the first best Hispanic movie that comes to mind for any Hispanic is "Selena"!  This movie will be on anyone's list, if not for the fact that Selena is an icon to Hispanics, then its because of Jennifer Lopez! (wipes drool). Oh sorry got flashbacks to the movie.

The next movie to be on this list has to be, "Blood in, Blood out."  This movie shows how the Latino community works in South LA.  It is a very good movie and worth the 5 dollar rental.

Next is one of the most uplifting movies, "Stand and Deliver."  “A negative times a negative equals a positive."  This movie will be at the top of any best movie list.

Now "Bella," a heartwarming story, if this doesn’t make you cry, then there is something wrong with you.

"Mi Familia" and "Tortilla Soup" are both stories about the dynamics of Hispanic families and they are fairly accurate. Throw in some hot girls going after the boys, and the siblings fighting, feels like home! Watch out for the chancla!!

"Desperado," what an action movie, got to love the guns in the guitar cases, and the o so hot Salma Hayek running around in a dress that leaves little to the imagination!

The next two I haven’t seen yet but if there was a death threat on Amos for this movie, then I have to watch it. Which movie is that you ask, its "American Me!"  For some reason they like making movies about Mexicans in gangs. There is no stereotyping or stereo-casting in Hollywood is there?? Idk.

OK, the last movie is a movie that speaks the truth, especially in the day and age of Immigration debates.  "A Day Without A Mexican."  I know that it’s supposed to be a parody and takes things to the extremes, but if media is supposed to depict the future, and the what ifs, this can depict it to a ‘T’.

And the best for last, "The Perfect Game." This is not the best because it’s a baseball movie, it's the best because its about Little League Baseball history that was made by the Mexican Little League Team, the team that could. Its about the first and only perfect game thrown in little league baseball history, and guess what, it was thrown by Mexico's team. Probably the best movie I have seen, and I have seen a lot!

Well that is this one Mexican's opinion. If I missed any, then they weren’t remembering. Ha Ha.  Let me know what I missed and I’ll tell u if it’s worth it.

All-Star Game Boycott

I still don't get this whole blog thing, but if I must I must.

I believe we as Hispanics should take a stand with this immigration thing. Arizona is the state that started these anti-Hispanic laws. They have a high valued event this coming week. One that they have been waiting years for.

If you haven't guessed it by now, it's the Major League Baseball's All-Star Game. It's an event in which players and celebs compete against each other in a softball game, home run derby, and concluding with the All-Star Game. It is a big event for the state, the MLB, and advertisers across the country.

We should boycott the game and all that leads up to it. Not only attending it, but watching it on television. I believe that it will not only show Arizona that we mean business, but also the networks and advertisers.

I firmly believe that the players and celebs should boycott this event as well. With Hispanics making up about 30% of the players in the league, more than either of the other three major sports in the United States, they and us should use this opportunity to take a stand against blatant racism.
